1. Best (free) Apps to use

The only two apps I use to create my vision board are Canva and Pinterest.

On Pinterest, I collect all the Pictures and Quotes I want to use in my vision board.

Once that is done, I use Canva to design the board itself, which makes me feel the most excited for all the things coming my way!

2. Vision board Content

Every vision board is individual to the person creating it, and that is how it should be! However, there are a few general tips to follow when selecting your vision board content.

2.1 Get clear on the underlying mood/theme

When thinking about all that you want for the coming year, try to think about an overall “theme” tying everything together, such as “freedom”, “confidence”, “love”, etc.

This will help you select pictures and quotes aligned with your deepest wishes more easily.

2.2 Include pictures for every area of your life

This is not meant literally.

You don’t have to include something for every area of your life, but it is recommended to at least think about what you want in all the major areas of your life and then pick the things you want to happen within the next year, really badly, and put them on your vision board.

2.3 “Challenging” Pictures

Choosing pictures that make you feel good is what vision boarding is all about. However, there are lots of different ways a picture can make you feel good.

There are pictures that make you feel good because because they give you a sense of safety and comfort, and those that get you excited and a little nervous, because they are outside of your comfort zone.

I would recommend using only a few of those safety pictures and more of the ones outside of your comfort zone, because in the end, your vision board is there to get you new experiences and things, and new things are always a little nerve-wrecking at first, but so worth it!

2.4 Inspiring Quotes

A vision board is a visual reminder of what you want to have and/or achieve. Using pictures as a visual reminder seems natural and is really amazing.

But words can work great as visual reminders, too! I am very much a Quotes kind of person, but you could also throw some song lyrics or even just words into the mix.

For me, it always feels like the mixture of great pictures and great Quotes is what makes my vision board feel truly amazing, but you might feel differently, and that is completely fine!

2.5 Less is more

When contemplating what we want in life, especially when thinking about all our areas separately (as I would recommend), it is easy to go overboard with it. There are so many amazing things that we want to have or experience.

And we want them all asap!

But your vision board has limited space to offer, space only for the most important goals and dreams you hold in your heart (not your mind!).

Focus on those main points and put only those onto the vision board. That way it stays clean and you will be focused on the VIPs (very important pictures ;)) when you look at it instead of your attention being drawn to a ton of different things all at once.

2.6 Central space and Corners are most important

When designing your vision board, it is wise to put the most important pictures and Quotes, linked to the most important goals and dreams you have, into the center and the corners of your vision board, as these are the places you will look at the most after hanging it up.

If you’d like some more detailed tips and instructions on how to make sure all your content comes together for an incredible vision board, be sure to check out my Post on How to make your vision board on Canva for 2026.

3. General important tips

Here are a few basic yet still important things to keep in mind when designing your vision board.

3.1 Feeling is everything!

Deciding on what you want and what you want most when choosing your vision board content can get overwhelming quickly, especially when you start thinking about it.

Thinking is not really required to design a vision board. Your feelings know what you want most; the only thing you have to do is listen to them!

3.2 It’s not a To-do-List!

I know I have been talking about choosing things you want to have and experience in the next year (or so) for your vision board. But please, please, please don’t use it as a To-Do List of all the things you need to get done within a certain amount of time.

Your vision board should rather be a reminder of the goals and dreams closest to your heart, motivating you to make time for these experiences and work towards them whenever possible.

Not because you have to, but because it brings you joy and makes life just a little (or a lot) better.

3.3 Place it where you see it often

I think this one is obvious as when you see it often, you are reminded often, so you will take action on the goals and dreams displayed more often as well.

This post has been all about the ultimate Vision Board Checklist for 2026.

I hope this has been helpful and please remember: You deserve all the good things this world has to offer!
