13 self-help Quotes that keep changing my life

Having been on my self-growth journey for years now, I have naturally picked up hundreds of Quotes and pieces of advice. A lot of it was helpful for a certain amount of time but there are some sentences and principles that still live in my mind rent free.

Because I really think these can be life-changing, I am sharing the 13 self-help Quotes that keep changing my life with you in this post.

self-help Quotes that keep changing my life

1. All emotions come and all emotions go

Reminding me that even the darkest, most consuming emotions will eventually soften and change.

2. People would do more to avoid pain than to gain pleasure

Comes up everytime I avoid doing something I know would be good for me but is also difficult and hard at the time. F.e. working out after work, leaving a social event early to get enough sleep, asking for something I want/need…

3. You cannot break a habit, you can only change it

This is not a direct quote but a key learning I took from my first ever (!) self-help book “The Power of Habit” from Charles Duhigg.

To this day it helps me analyse my habits and change the routine that brings me to my craved reward in a healthier way.

4. Everything is a success when the Goal is Experience

So often we can feel like we have to be great at things for them to be a success, but sometimes being brave enough to even try is the greatest success there is.

5. All a first draft has to do is to exist

Helps me to get started when I feel stuck on writing/creating anything.

6. Progress over perfection

Reminds me that most times getting things done and getting better at them, is way more important than them being “perfect”. Which is unattainable anyway.

7. Noone ever tells you that bravery feels like fear

Helps me to jump over my shadow before doing something brave and reminds me that it’s okay and very normal to feel afraid in that moment.

8. Thank you, but not now

Unhelpful thoughts that keep creeping up and circling in my mind are met with this thought habitually by now. It helps me to get out of that cycle and refocus on reality.

9. It’s scary because it’s unfamiliar not because I am incapable

Before doing something new I don’t feel completely ready for (because when do we ever?), I use this as a kind of mantra to boost my confidence and calm my nervous system.

10. Fitting in gets in the way of belonging

This Brené Brown quote is a gentle reminder that being who you are will attract people you “belong” with and having to change who you are for people to like you is “fitting in”. And that these are in no way the same! Belonging is needed, fitting in is exhausting.

11. It’s not the critic who counts

… the credit belongs to the man that is actually in the arena.

This Theodore Roosevelt Quote is a reminder for me that People who have never tried what I am doing are not getting to critice and also a not so gentle reminder when I fall into judgement of others.

12. You are not your thoughts

One of the biggest learnings early in my journey! You have thoughts, you are not your thoughts and thoughts can be changed! You create your thoughts, so (with time and effort) you can create better ones.

13. If it takes less than 2 minutes, do it now

Helps me complete small tasks before they pile up into an overwhelming mountain of to-do’s (still happens from time to time though)…
