The best Reflection Prompts for 2025

“Another year gone.” – Albus Dumbledore

And when another year has gone or is coming to an end, it is an amazing time to pause for a moment and reflect on what has happened in the whirlwind of the last 12 months.

To help you sort through last year’s highs and lows, learnings and challenges, joys and adventures, I have compiled the best reflection prompts for 2025 four you, sorted into four categories.

What you can find in this post about self-growth:

1. The planned

2. The unexpected

3. The highest and lowest

4.  The future

1. The planned

We start our year with high hopes and plans for things to change for the better, with goals to achieve and adventures to experience.

And then, on the 2nd or 3rd of January, real life starts again, and many of the things we dreamed up never make it to reality.

Some of them do, though.

Reflecting on the things you had planned to do this year is not supposed to be a dreadful exercise where you mourn all the things you haven’t done and curse the time wasted scrolling on your phone.

It is here to remind you of what has worked out and what hasn’t, and use that to be a few percent better in truly going through with the plans you made in 2026.

1.1 Planned reflection prompts

        • What plans worked out and why?
        • Did I get to do everything I set out to do?
        • What kept me from accomplishing my plans?

2. The unplanned

This section is all about reflecting on the unexpected and surprising highs and lows 2025 held for you and how open you are to experiencing them all.

2.1 Unplanned reflection prompts

        • What were the unexpected challenges, and how did I manage them
        • Was I open to unexpected experiences and adventures?
        • Did I take the time to notice and cherish the unexpected joys?

3. The highest and lowest points

Many things feel like major events in the moment, but seem smaller with time and nearly insignificant at the end of the year.

Then there are the things that stay big and somewhat consuming.

They can be achievements or challenges, but they are always extremes.

You are not meant to relive all these experiences (especially the challenges), but reflect on the learnings, your resources, and your focus when extreme experiences happen.

3.1 Highest and lowest points reflection prompts

        • What was the lowest point of the year, and how did I recover from it?
        • Have I been gentle with my human self through the lowest times?
        • What was the highest point of the year, and how did I get there/did it happen?
        • Did I allow myself to enjoy and celebrate this high fully?
        • Did I enjoy the rollercoaster of life this year overall?

4. The Future

Having reflected on the past, it is also important to think about the year to come and use all the learnings and experiences from 2025 for an even better year in 2026.

We are not planning for the new year here. Just focusing on the main experiences you want, the most important things.

4.1 Future reflection prompts

        • What did my lows teach me for a better future?
        • What can I take from my highs to create more of those?
        • What do I want to keep doing/experiencing in 2026?
        • What is one thing I would like to change for 2026?
        • If I were granted one wish for 2026, it would be…
