1. Get clear on what you want

Your Vision Board is supposed to remind you of the things you want most for the next year. For it to be able to do that, you first have to know what it is that you truly want.

Having a clear vision of what you want to experience and achieve helps a lot (!) to create a meaningful Vision Board for you with the right Pictures and Quotes.

If you want some more help in choosing the best and most meaningful Pictures and Quotes for your Vision Board, be sure to check out my post on how to choose your Vision Board pictures right!

2. Download all Pictures and Quotes

Once you have decided on the Pictures and Quotes you want to include in your Vision Board, be sure to download (or Screenshot) them all.

This is absolutely essential to upload Pictures to Canva. For Quotes, you can also decide to add them as text while designing on Canva.

3. Design your Vision Board on Canva

To design your Vision Board on Canva, you obviously need the Canva App.

For those of you who don’t know Canva, it’s a free design app you can download from the internet.

It also has a premium version available, but that is not necessary for creating your Vision Board!

To download the free Version of Canva now, click here.

Now, let’s get into how exactly you can create your most meaningful Vision Board on Canva in just a few simple steps:

3.1 Size and Orientation

The first thing to decide on is whether you want your Vision Board to be printed afterwards, or set as a background on a device, to know which size to choose.

You can definitely do both, but the Vision Boards then need to be created separately due to the different sizing.

For printing you have to know the space where it’s supposed to go. My favourite size is 40x60cm (16×24 inches) to hang in my bedroom.

When setting your Vision Board as a background you need to know its size. Googling “*phone name* background size in pixel” should give you the information needed.

For orientation, you have the option of horizontal or vertical. My choice, especially for phone backgrounds, would be vertical, but that’s truly up to you.

3.2 Pictures and Quotes

Upload all Pictures and Quotes you want to include in your Vision Board onto Canva.

It doesn’t have to be the final selection; it is completely fine to try out some different design ideas and Pictures/Quotes until you find what you really love.

3.3 Design

Now we get to all the fun!

To keep overwhelm at bay, here are my tips for the best design possible:

                        3.3.1 Select focus Pictures/Quotes

Select your “focus pictures” and “focus quotes” to go into the central space and the corners of your vision board, as those are the places you will look at most.

These focus pictures and/or quotes should be the ones that make you feel most motivated or excited for your most important goals.

3.3.2 Go downstream with trial and error

From your most important pictures, quotes, and goals, work yourself down the ladder to the least important things and add all your Pictures and Quotes as you go.

This is probably not a one-time adding and then being done kind of thing. From my own experience, I know that it sometimes takes me hours to find an alignment I truly love and that speaks to me. It doesn’t have to take hours, though! I just love playing around with it a lot .

3.3.3 Less is more

Thinking about what we want in life can easily get out of hand. There are so many goals to reach and experiences to be had. I get that, trust me!

Still, less is more when designing your Vison Board. Make sure to truly focus on the few main goals and experiences you want for the next year and dedicate enough space to each, helping to attain the feeling you want.

3.3.4 Clean or all-over-the-place?

Are you an organized person or rather messy (in the best way)? Do you need a structured Vision Board, or do you want it to be disordered?

I am a generally organized person, and I love my Vision Board to reflect that. Which is why I end up with a certain space of my Vision Board designated to a specific goal, and the space next to it designated to a different goal.

You might like that, or you might decide that you want it a little “messier”. Both are completely fine.

Always remember that your Vision Board is supposed to speak to you, not anyone else!

            3.3.5 Background colour

When assembling your Vision Board, there might be some spaces between the Pictures and Quotes you are adding. For these spaces to look less awkward and unwanted, I like to choose a background colour for my vision board.

In Canva, you can choose any colour and even choose a colour that already exists inside your Pictures, so those free spaces blend in perfectly.

3.4 Print or set as background

Once you are satisfied with your design, download your Vision Board onto your device and then set it as a background or print it.

When printing your Vision Board, I would recommend ordering it at a store with photo paper; the Quality is so much better!

4. Enjoy!

Now that your Vision Board is exactly what and where you want it, take the time to enjoy it as much as possible.

We tend to appreciate these things only in the first couple of days after making them, because they are new.

But for your Vision Board to unfold its full potential and remind you again and again of your focus and your goals, you need to look at it as much as possible!

And it is soo much fun to think about all the great things you are creating and that are coming your way!
